The Vision for Westbury-on-Severn CE Primary School
A small school, dreaming big
This vision evolved through a workshop, lead by the Diocese, involving governors, staff and parents. We were inspired by the scripture from Proverbs (see below) and considered what our hopes and dreams were for the pupils of Westbury.
The school held a Vision Day in January 2023, allowing children to explore the new vision through discussion, art work, writing and worship. From this came the visual image of "The Westbury Way" which the children depicted in their vision work and has continued to develop as the year progressed.
Proverbs Chapter 22, verse 6
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it”
Vision statement
Our aim is to develop the full potential of each and every child, to set them on a path that will lead them to become confident, self-motivated, lifelong learners. We will encourage pupils to “dream big” within our nurturing Westbury family, so that they leave us ready for life’s great opportunities.
Later in the year, a parent and Friend of Westbury, Helen Cracknell, worked with the headteacher and pupils on a mural design in the playground to depict the school vision. This included the newly chosen House Teams; Badgers, Wild Boars, Deer and Hedgehogs and other local wildlife.
The pupils helped paint the River and the Trees that represent each class- Oak, Sycamore, Willow and Chestnut and finally every staff member and pupil decorated a fish- the symbol of Christ- to swim in the river.
See photos below of this year's School Council with this wonderful playground mural that we enjoy every playtime.
