Safeguarding

Safeguarding pupils is of paramount importance to us here at Westbury. The physical safety and emotional wellbeing of all pupils is our top priority at all times.

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.

All staff and governors are fully trained and updated annually on key developments in safeguarding practice and new staff receive safeguarding training as part of their induction.

Our Safeguarding policy is reviewed annually by the Designated Safeguarding leads and the Governing board. Our policy is informed by the Dept for Education document "Keeping Children Safe in Education" which all staff, governors and volunteers who work with children are required to read and follow, alongside our policy.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is the Headteacher, Anna-Mai Armstrong and the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead is Leanne Roseblade-Bargh, Senior Teacher and SENCO. The Chair of Governors, Jen Sigournay, is the Governor with responsibility for Safeguarding. She meets with the Headteacher several times a year to conduct robust monitoring to ensure policy is being followed and safeguarding practice is high quality. Every three years we ask Gloucestershire County Council to carry out a Safeguarding Audit of our approach, to ensure we are fully compliant.
All staff use our online safeguarding portal MY CONCERN to report any concerns they may have for any pupil's safety or welfare, which may present through a change in behaviour, distress, a disclosure of abuse, information provided by a parent or the wider community, persistent lateness or absences.
The Safeguarding Leads work closely together to monitor, investigate and, if necessary, report any of these internally reported concerns to the relevant agencies or to arrange meetings with parents. We are committed to taking an active role in the Multi Agency response to all child protection concerns.

Pupils know that they can always speak to a trusted adult at any point in the day. Our behaviour approach is trauma informed and this supports robust safeguarding, through the emotional availability of all adults. Pupils are also educated as to how to keep themselves safe, physically, emotionally, relationally and online through our curriculum. Please see our PSHE curriculum for more information.
